Pierre Robin Syndrome
This syndrome consist of micrognothia, glossoptosis and high
arch or cleft palate. One of the most important difficulty the child feels is
difficulty in breathing when lying supine. This is because the tongue falls
back causing obstruction over the pharynx. The infant should be maintained in
a prone or partially prone position to relieve respiratory obstruction. The
feeding of infants in this sequence requires great care. Often the growth of
mandible will achieve an essentially normal profile within 4-6 year.
